Abstract

This research was aimed to improve students’ skills in writing recount text by using Somatic – Audiotory- Visualization – Intellectually strategy (SAVI). The subject of this research was the eighth grade students at Mts Hifzhil Qur’an Yayasan Islamic Centre Medan in 2017 academic year. This research of this study was conducted by using classroom action research. The instruments used in this research such as: Pre-test and Post-test, interview sheet, observation sheet, diary notes and photography evidence. The result of this research showed that there was increasing of students in writing recount text. The mean of the pre test was 43, the mean of the first cycle was 66.2 and the mean of second cycle was 79.3, they showed that the mean in second cycle were better than the first cycle. The percentage of students who got point 75 or more also grew up. In the pre-test, there were 2 students (5%) who got point 75. In the post-test of cycle I the students who got point 75 or more there were 21 students (52.5%). It means that there was an increasing about 47,5 %. The post-test of cycle II, students who got point 75 or more there were 35 students (87.5%) and the increasing was about 35%. For the total of increasing of the students’ score from pre-test to post-test of cycle II was 82.5 %. In other words, the students’ writing skill in recount text improved and became well in the first meeting to the next meeting. For the hypothesis testing used t-tes formula from the computation, the researcher found that tobservation> ttable or in the coefficient of tobservation (6,76) > ttable , df= N-1=39 with the level α= 0.05 or 5%. In the coefficient of tobservation (6,76) > ttable (2.03). Thus, alternative hypothesis (Ha) could be accepted. Based on the finding, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) stating that the application of SAVI strategy could improve on the students’writing skill in recount text.
