Abstract

This research was conducted to know Guiding Question Technique improve the students’ achievement in writing recount text. The subjects of this research were 18 students of the eight grade of SMP Al Washliyah 1 Ismailiyah Medan in 206/2017 Academic Year. This research was conducted by using classroom action research. In analyzing the data, the writer used qualitative and quantitative approach. The qualitative data were taken from observation sheet, interview, diary notes, and documentation. The quantitative data were taken from the test. The indicator of success of this research was 75, as the minimum standard of score (KKM). The achievement can be seen in the result of students average score from the pre-test was 55.38, post-test I was 74.16 and post-test II was 79.55. From the result of the research, it could be seen that the coefficient of tobservation = 4.80 and ttable to df= N-1 = 18-1 = 17, with the fact level α= 0.05 was 2.11. In the coefficient of tobservation (4.80) > ttable (2.11). Thus, alternative hypothesis (Hα) could be received. Based on the finding, the alternative hypothesis (Hα) stating that guiding question technique could be improve students’ achievement in writing recount text. And based interviewed, observation sheet, diary notes and documentation showed that the students’ response at writing recount text by using guiding question technique was very good. It was found that teaching writing recount text by using guiding question technique could improve the students’ achievement.
