Abstract
Alloxan causes damage to pancreatic β cells by activating reactive oxygen through the reduction reaction of alloxan, causing the pancreas to be unable to produce insulin, and resulting in oxidative stress which ends in a decrease in kidney function, which is characterized by an increase in urea and creatinine levels. Water henna leaf extract (Impatiens balsamina L.) is a plant that has potential as an antioxidant to reduce the effects of free radicals. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of giving henna leaf extract (Impatiens balsamina L.) on urea and creatinine levels, as well as to determine the morphology and index of the kidney organs of male Wistar rats (Rattus novergicus L.) which were induced by alloxan. This study used a completely randomized design with 24 mice divided into 6 treatments and 4 replications. Normal control rats were given food and drink, negative control (alloxan 150 mg/kg BW), positive control (alloxan 150 mg/kg BW and glibenclamide), treatment groups 1, 2, and 3 were given henna leaf extract in graded doses ( P1=450, P2=500, and P3= 550 mg/kg Research stages include plant identification, phytrochemical screening, alloxan induction, extract induction, blood sampling and testing of urea and creatinine levels using a spectrophotometer followed by the duncan test 150 mg/kg BW can damage urea and creatinine levels. Administration of henna leaf extract (Impatiens balsamina L.) at a dose of 500 mg/kg BW has a significant effect on reducing urea and creatinine levels in white mice which induces alloxan 0.05). Administration of water henna leaf extract (Impatiens balsamina L.) at a dose of 450 mg/kg BW had a significant effect on improving kidney morphology in white rats which induced alloxan, while the organ index Water henna leaf extract could not prevent the alloxan-induced increase in kidney weight in white rats.
