Abstract
Metabolic syndrome comprises a number of cardiovascular risk factors that have been identified as contributors to the incidence of stroke. The number of stroke patients in the world region in 2019 was recorded at 89%. The aim of the study was to determine the risk factors for stroke events in hospitalized patients with a history of metabolic syndrome at UPTDK Hajj Hospital Medan in 2023. The research method used cross sectional with case control research design, with matching technique. The data used is secondary data. The sampling technique used total sampling of 624 respondents. The results showed that there was a significant joint relationship between a history of cardiac abnormalities, diabetes mellitus, hypertension to the incidence of stroke. The most dominant risk factor in influencing the incidence of stroke is a history of cardiac abnormalities. The chance of stroke if there are all risk factors is 84% and R Square is 3.6%, meaning that if there are risk factors for a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart defects with an 84% chance of experiencing 3.6% of stroke events in individuals. While 96.4% is influenced by other variables that are not studied. The conclusion is that the ability of independent variables based on R2 can only explain stroke by 4.3%. However, if the existing risk factors are carried out periodically and continuously, the independent variables to explain stroke will be very high and can increase stroke quickly. It is expected for the community to always apply CERDIK, namely periodic health checks, get rid of cigarette smoke, diligent physical activity, healthy diet with balanced calories, adequate rest and manage stress
