Abstract

Pneumonia is the single largest infectious disease that kills children under five globally. Apart from being caused by agents that cause pneumonia entering the lungs, the incidence of pneumonia in toddlers is also influenced by several factors. The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors for pneumonia in toddlers at RSUD Dr. R. M. Djoelham Binjai City 2021-2022. This research is an observational analytical epidemiological study with a retrospective or case control approach with a sample size of 30 cases and 60 controls of toddlers aged 0 – 60 months. Data processing was carried out using univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test. The results showed that there was a relationship between history of exclusive breastfeeding (P=0.020; OR=3.273; 95%CI=1.169 – 9.159), nutritional status (P=0.007; OR=11.800; 95%CI=1.311 – 106.217) and density. occupancy (P=0.000; OR=5.444; 95%CI=2.092 – 14.168). Efforts that can be made are to maximize health programs for toddlers so that they can prevent the risk and even reduce the incidence of pneumonia in children in Binjai City.
