The background of this research was due to the existence of a condition when there was no implementation yet of mathematical literacy skills in students, where students tended to have difficulty in identifying or defining problems, solving strategies, and arithmetic operations that will be used in questions in the form of stories of daily life.This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition learning model in improving mathematical literacy skills in class VIII students of MTsPN 4 Medan. The method of this research was a quantitative research, and the type of the experiment which used was the Post-test Only Control Design. The instrument used to collect data was a test of students' mathematical literacy abilities in the form of descriptive questions. Normality test, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing with t-test were used in this research as parts of data analysis approach. Based on the results of data analysis obtained sig. (2-tailed), where the result was 0.000 which was < 0.05, so it can be concluded that there was significant effectiveness in the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition learning model in improving students' mathematical literacy abilities.
