Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of Musthafawiya Alumni in the study of tafsir contemporary in the North Sumatra. Musthafawiyah islamic Boarding school which is the oldest islamic boarding school in North Sumatra and is more synonymous Sumatra with pesantren which studies more classical books such as fiqih, tasawuf, hadis, tafsir and other books, Musthafawiyah islamic boarding school which was founded in 1912 and its alumni have spread especially in North Sumatera. This study also aims to find out how the thoughts of several Musthafawiyah alumni figures towards tafsir contemporary commentary books. This study also aims to find out how the assessment method is carried out by the Musthafawiyah alumni figures in the study of contemporary interpretation. This research is a field research. By collecting data related to recearch and then described based on the data obtained. Data collection techniques used are interviews and the work or writings of alumni Musthafawiyah figures related to the title of the thesis. The book of interpretation studied by the Musthafawiyah alumni figures in this study is the books of interpretation of tafsir al-Jawahir fi Tafsir Al- Qur’an by Tantawi Jauhari, tafsir Al-Jami’ li Ahkamil Qur’an by Imam Al-Qurtubi, tafsir al-Ayat al-Kauniyah fi Al-Qur’an al-Karim by Zaghlul An-Najjar, tafsir Safwatut Tafsir by Muhammad Ali Ass-Sabuny, tafsir Ayatul Ahkam by As- Soubuni, tafsir Al-Maraghi by Ahmad Musthafa Al-Maraghi, tafsir Departement Agama RI, and also books related to scientific interpretation.
