Abstract

The emergence of waste is inseparable from the behavior of the community as a waste producer and manager. Waste management must be carried out properly, effectively and in accordance with sanitation standards, one of which is at market traders. Most traders in the Sarimatondang market dispose of garbage in front of the merchant's stalls and behind the market building. The purpose of this study was to describe and assess the relationship between knowledge, attitudes and availability of facilities with the behavior of traders in waste management at Sarimatondang Market, Sidamanik District, Simalungun Regency. This study used a cross-sectional analytic survey methodology. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire given to 85 respondents. The chi- aquare test in SPSS was used for univariate and bivariate data analysis. Based on the results of the chi square test, there is a significant relationship between knowledge and trader behavior, with a p value of 0.000 (< 0.05), there is a relationship between attitudes and trader behavior with a p value of 0.040 (< 0.05) and there is a relationship between availability of waste management facilities with the behavior of traders with a p value of 0.001 (<0.05). Based on the findings of the researchers, there is a strong correlation between traders’ attitude and availability of facilities with the behavior of traders in the waste management of Sarimatondang Market, Sidamanik District, Simalungun Regency
