Abstract

Given Indonesia's high population, it is important to use long-acting contraceptive methods that can prevent pregnancy. Finding the characteristics that drive long-term contraceptive use in North Sumatra was the objective of this study (SDKI 2017). This study was a cross-sectional analytic quantitative study. The province of North Sumatra was the location of this study. August to February 2023 was the research period. 2,459 couples of childbearing age (PUS) constituted the study population. There were 2,277 participants in this study. Data for this study were collected using interviews and the SDKI tool. This study used univariate and bivariate data analysis. Bivariate analysis used the Chi-Square test, while univariate analysis used descriptive analysis. The findings of this study indicate that there is a relationship between place of residence and contraceptive use, as well as a relationship between age and the use of long-acting contraceptives (MKJP) in North Sumatra Province (p-value=0.001). (p-value=0.106), there is a relationship between education and the use of MHJP (p-value=0.001), there is a relationship between ownership index and the use of MHJP (p-value=0.005), there is a relationship between employment status and the use of MHJP (p-value=0.001), there is a relationship between the use of MHJP and parity (p-value=0.001), and there is a relationship between the use of MHJP and marital status (p-value=0.001). It is recommended that the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) improve family planning services and provide counseling and education to couples of childbearing age about MHJP. It is also recommended that the community be more active in visiting health facilities for family planning.
