Abstract
Translation is a general term that refers to the transfer of though and ideas from one language to another, wether the language is in spoken written form, whether the language is not standarized or whether one or both language are based on signs such as ideal language sign. Based on the explanation above, there are two research objectives of this study. The frst is to find out what the factors are the difficulties of students in translating argumentative text from English to Indonesian in class seventh SMP IT Rahmat, and the second is to find out how students translate argumentative text from English to Indoesian in class seventh SMP IT Rahmat. In the research, the researcher used a qualitative approach, while the type of research used by the researcher is descriptive qualitative. In collecting data, the researcher used qualitative techniques, namely: observation, interview and documentation techniques that describe the difficulties in translating argumentative English to Indonesian. The population in this reserach were students of class VII SMP IT Rahmat. The result showed that the students use a several translation method such as free translation. And also in the translation process have gone through the right process, but maybe they don’t kow understand the process they are doing. Based on the result above, it is recommended for the teacher students to have prepared in advance the translation material that will be studied at the school, so that they understand what is contained in the translation, and also how the translation process is good.
