Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe how students translate argumentative texts from Indonesian to English. This process was observed and researched by second grade students at MA Muhammadiyah Sei Apung Jaya during the 2021-2022 school year. The natural situation of the argumentative text when it is being translated from Indonesian to English is explained in detail with a descriptive qualitative research approach. This study uses examinations and interviews with students to test the students' translation process. These findings indicate that this is a natural process carried out by students starting from preparing the equipment before starting the translation to collecting the translation results. After the researcher analyzed the data, the writer found eight findings about the process of translating argumentative text from Indonesian to English, namely: (1) Preparation before translating the text, (2) Reading the text, (3) Finding familiar words, (4) Arrange words into sentences, (5) Ask friends and teachers, (6) Check translation results, (7) Improve translation results and (8) Collect translation results. The translation process carried out by students is realized because of the habit of the same learning process. On the research subject they perform all the same stages and sequentially.
