Abstract

Quality of translation is one of the most important aspects in translation studies of learning language. This research is intended to report the results of the research of “The Comparison of Student‟s Ability in Translation of a Narrative Text Using Google Translate And Manual-Translation at State Islamic University of North Sumatera”. The research methodology is using comparative descriptive research. The researcher using Peter Newmark‟s theory and Larson etc. to analysis the result of student‟s translation. This translating text that as follows, in Google- Translate the students Word-for-word (68,2%), Literal (18.2%), Faithful (0%), Idiomatic (0%), and last Borrowing (13,63%) so total of all is 22 (100%). Meanwhile result of Human-Translation is Word-for-word (0%), Literal (77,22%), Free Translation (13,63%), Adaptation (4,54%) and the last is Borrowing of Reference Translation (4,54%). The researcher concluded that base on the section above, word-for-word is a method which is mostly use by the students. Meanwhile, for the students who use Manual-translation process, the method which is mostly use is literal translation result. Based on the findings, the translation result of the samplings using Google-translate is not accurate as the translation results of the samplings using Manual Translation Process.
