Abstract
In general, the purpose of this study is to describe the strategy of Islamic Education teachers in improving the quality of prayer in congregation at SDN 106162 Medan Estate Percut Sei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency. In specific, it aims to describe: First, the process of praying in congregation at SDN 106162 Medan Estate Percut Sei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency. Second, the coordination between the Headmaster, the Islamic Education teachers, and students’ parents in improving the quality ofof prayer in congregation at SDN 106162 Medan Estate PercutSei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency. Third, the approach used by the Islamic Education teachers in motivating students to improve the quality of prayer in congregation at SDN 106162 Medan Estate PercutSei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency. Fourth, the obstacles and challenges faced by the Islamic Education teachersin improving the quality of prayer in congregation at SDN 106162 Medan Estate PercutSei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency. The research findings based on the observation instruments, interviews and documentation studies showed that: First, the process of congregational prayer was carried out with the guidance and direction of the Islamic Education teachers. The guidance that was carried out before and prior to congregational prayers, either during the learning of Islamic Education or prior to congregational prayer in the praying room was about things related to congregational prayer such as the suggestion to always get used to praying in congregation, wisdom and benefits contained in congregational prayer, as well as procedures in doing congregational prayer. Furthermore, when the prayer will be held in congregation, the Islamic Education teachers also provide guidance and motivation to always perform prayers in congregation well. During the praying in congregation, the Islamic Education teachers of Islamic Education observed and monitored how congregational prayer went. Second, the coordination between the headmaster, the Islamic Education Teachers, and students’ parents in improving the quality of prayer in congregation at SDN 106162 Medan Estate Percut Sei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency is through formal as well as informal meetings. Formally, the coordination between the headmaster and the teachers was conducted when the headmaster invited the parents to discuss issues related to congregational prayer as well as to motivate their children to take part in congregational prayer. The coordination between the headmaster and the teachers was conducted was always conducted to discuss matters related to congregational prayer in order to improve its quality. Third, the approach used by the Islamic Education teachers in motivating students to improve the quality of prayer in congregation at SDN 106162 Medan Estate Percut Sei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency is through religious, individual, and group approaches. The religious approach was by giving direction about related things such as the significance, the reward obtained when praying in congregation. Besides, individual and group approaches were also used. These approaches were conducted by the methods of practice and rehearse with the purpose that the students are able to perform individual and congregational prayers well. Fourth, the obstacles and challenges faced by the Islamic Education teachers in improvingthe quality of prayer in congregation at SDN 106162 Medan Estate PercutSei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency. There are some obstacles and challenges either internally or externally. Internally, there were learners who still did want to take part in congregational prayers with inappropriate and contrived reasons. While, externally, the location to perform prayer in congregation was still not proper and the lack of participation from students’ parents to motivates their children to take part in congregational prayers at school.
