Abstract
This research was conducted to find out the implementation of personal journal technique in improving the students’ writing skill in recount text. The subject of this research was 30 students at VIII grade students of MTs Al-Ittihadiyah Laut Dendang. This research was conducted by classroom action research that consisted of two cycles. The qualitative data were taken from observation sheet, interview sheet, and diary notes. The quantitative data were taken from tests which carry out at the end of every cycle. The test was given in pre test, post test in cycle I and post test in cycle II. The result of the data analysis showed that the students’ score increased from the pre test, post test of cycle I to post test of cycle II. It could be seen from the mean of the pre test was 63, 8. There were 23, 33% (7) students who passed the standard minimum score or KKM. In the post test of cycle I, the mean was 71, 86. There were 50% (15) students who passed the standard minimum score or KKM. In the post test of cycle II, the mean was 76, 1. There were 76, 66% (23) students who passed the standard minimum score or KKM. It indicated that personal journal technique could improve the students’ writing skill in recount text.
