Abstract
Ulama is a person who has knowledge of religion and natural sciences that knowledge has fear and submit to God. The cleric was mentioned as the holder of a leadership and religious milestone after the prophet Muhammad SAW, Warasah al-Anbiya ’(heir to the Prophet). Ulama have extensive knowledge so that scholars are able to answer all problems faced by the people. In the election of the Governor and Deputy Governor of North Sumatra in 2018, the ulama played an important role in the democratic contestation, so that the elections were won by the pair number 01, namely Edy Rahmayadi and Musa Rajekshah. Of course in this case, the ulema have an important role, so what makes the ulama play a role and what factors cause the ulema to contribute. This research uses qualitative research with a political approach (Political Approach). Where researchers examined by tracing the contribution of scholars in winning the pair Edy Rahmayadi with Musa Rajekshah in the election of the Governor of North Sumatra. With this, researchers collected data related to scholars and their participation, especially in the political field. The scholars involved in this research are structural as well as non-structural even though they are strongly involved in it. After conducting research by gathering various information provided, it can be concluded that the contribution of ulama is very large in favor of the Edy-Ijek pair in the face of rival Djarot-Sihar. Identity politics is a type of politics that is very influential to be played in this global era. The general findings of this study are that the contribution of ulama in the victory of the couple Edy Rahmayadi and Musa Rajekshah in the North Sumatra Regional Election in 2018 in the city of Medan is very large. Whereas the specific finding was with the evidence that the scholars and religious teachers and North Sumatra activists held a North Sumatra Muslim Community Congress, Tabligh Akbar was held in Medan's Mardeka Field ahead of the election day, Friday Sermon, Muzakarah Siyasah, Shala Shubuh Congregation Movement later towards the Polling Station (TPS). The factors that encourage ulama to contribute in winning the pair are tied to the dimensions of internalization, the issue of political secularization, and ideological factors.
