Abstract
For K-pop fans, the use of nicknames or pseudonyms is the usual thing they do on social media, one of them is Instagram. Many of them use account names or usernames associated with their idols so they can more free and be brave in expressing their favorites online than in their real life. The study is aimed at identifying the motives of K-pop fans using pseudonyms in their Instagram accounts in forming the Online Disinhibition Effect. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection methods such as observation of participants and interviews with K-Pop fans who use an Instagram pseudonym. The results of this study indicate that the informants have two Instagram accounts, namely the main account with their real identity and a pseudonymous account with a pseudonym using their idol's name. The informant's motives for using pseudonyms are a form of self-identity as a fan, making it easier to find information about K-Pop, a means of freely expressing their hobbies, and being able to easily connect with other fans. In this case, the Online Disinhibition Effect that occurs has both positive and negative effects. The positive impact, the pseudonyms of informants can help them to express themselves more freely and openly. But on the other hand, it can lead to irresponsible behavior like hate comments and cyberbullying.
