Abstract

Character Strengthening Education (PPK) is an educational movement in schools to strengthen the character of students through harmonization of the heart (ethics), feelings (aesthetics), thoughts (literacy), and sports (kinesthetic) supported by community involvement and cooperation between schools, families, and communities. This study aims to determine the profile of character education strengthening in biology learning for class X at MAN 1 Medan. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a descriptive research type using observation guide sheets, interviews and documentation in data collection. While data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. This research was conducted at MAN 1 Medan. The research was submitted to describe and analyze events, phenomena, learning activities, attitudes and perceptions. The results of the study show: (1) There are 10 profiles of strengthening character education in MAN 1 Medan, namely: Civilized (ta'addub), Exemplary (qudwah), Citizenship and nationality (muwaṭanah), Taking the middle path (tawassuṭ), Balanced (tawāzun), Straight and firm (i'tidāl), Equality (musāwah), Deliberation (syūra), Tolerance (tasāmuh), Dynamic and innovative (tathawwur wa ibtikâr). (2) The application of character education in biology learning in class X has implemented character education, namely: religious values, independent, friendly/communicative, responsible, tolerant, caring for health, caring for society, and caring for the environment, and caring for the environment. (3) Difficulty implementing character education in biology learning. Teachers do not experience difficulties because biology learning is identical to everyday life in the learning process so that it is easy to instill character values in students.
