Abstract

Keywords : Mathematical Representation Ability, Matrix Material Mathematical representation abilities can motivate students to develop communication, thinking processes, and understanding of mathematical concepts in the learning process. This research is a type of descriptive qualitative research which aims to describe (elaborate and explain) students' mathematical representation abilities in matrix material in class XII SMAS Islam Ulun Nuha Medan. The subjects in this research were 3 female students based on their initial mathematical ability categories, namely low, medium and high. Data collection was obtained from the results of mathematical representation ability tests and interviews. Then data analysis is carried out by reducing the data, presenting the data, then drawing conclusions/verification. The results showed that subjects in the low initial mathematical ability category had low mathematical representation abilities, subjects in the medium initial mathematical ability category had moderate mathematical representation abilities, while subjects in the high initial mathematical abilities have high mathematical representation abilities as well.
