Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the mistakes made by students in translating a text and to use written text as an instrument to find errors made by students. The research was conducted at SMAN 9 Medan. Information was collected through interviews and documentation. The research approach used was subjective, employing a case study design. Data analysis procedures included data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validity of the research was examined through validity, transferability, consistency, and appropriateness. Based on finding in this research, there were four types of the error made by the students in translating Indonesian recount text into English. The errors are inversion of meaning, ommision of meaning, addition of meaning and deviation of meaning. From the result of the data, it could be concluded that students still find difficulties in translating Indonesian recount text into English. It could be seen from the errors they made.
