Abstract

This study utilized a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 replications and 6 treatments. The treatments consisted of a positive control group treated with ketokenazole, a negative control group treated with DMSO, and concentration groups treated with extract concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%. Data analysis involved conducting one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan's test. The results indicated that the positive control group exhibited an average inhibition zone diameter of 20.6 mm against Aspergillus flavus. However, the extract from young Calamus manan rattan stems, at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60% and 80%, did not demonstrate any average inhibition zone diameter, indicating a lack of antifungal activity. Likewise, the negative control group treated with DMSO did not exhibit any antifungal efficacy. In the case of Candida albicans, the positive control group displayed an average inhibition zone diameter of 17.6 mm, while the extract from young Calamus manan rattan stems, at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60% and 80%, showed average inhibition zone diameters of 4.1 mm, 4.2 mm, 4.4 mm, and 3.8 mm, respectively. The negative control group treated with DMSO did not exhibit any antifungal activity. In conclusion, this study determined that the extract from young Calamus manan rattan stems is ineffective in inhibiting Aspergillus flavus and Candida albicans fungi. These stems contain secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and glycosides, which possess antifungal and antibacterial properties. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the antifungal activity of the extract from young Calamus manan rattan stems against Candida albicans and Aspergillus flavus. The study involved the identification of these stems, extraction of the stems, phytochemical tests, and antifungal tests using the Disc Diffusion method.
