Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of inflation, the rupiah exchange rate and the distribution of zakat funds on the purchasing power of people in North Sumatra. This research method uses quantitative descriptive analysis with time series data type. Secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency, Bank Indonesia, and the North Sumatra Amil Zakat Agency. The data analysis technique with SPSS 22 uses multiple linear regression tests. The results of this research show that inflation and distribution of zakat funds have a significant effect on people's purchasing power in North Sumatra. Because inflation causes the value of the currency to fall so that purchasing power also weakens. This weakening purchasing power occurs because sellers increase prices in an effort to obtain value so that they remain profitable after inflation occurs. Meanwhile, the distribution of zakat is influential because Zakat functions in providing a Social Safety Net (JPS) and guaranteeing the fulfillment of basic needs for society, reducing inequality, encouraging the wheels of the economy to turn, and encouraging the productive use of funds and increasing people's purchasing power. The rupiah exchange rate does not have a significant effect on people's purchasing power, because foreign exchange rates are always changing, so one of the impacts that is clearly visible in society is changes in purchasing power.
