Abstract

This study aims to determine the actions of bibliocrime that occurred in the UPT of the Library of the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra, the factors that led to the occurrence of bibliocrime actions at the UPT of the Library of the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra, and the efforts made by librarians in tackling bibliocrime actions at the UPT of the Library of the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra. This research uses descriptive qualitative research using a case study approach. There were 6 informants in this study, namely the head of the library, the librarian of technical services, the librarian of the user service, the librarian of the circulation service and 2 of the users. The result of this study is that there are 4 (four) bibliocrime actions that occur at the UPT Library of the University of Muhammadiyah Sumatra, namely theft, ripping, unauthorized borrowing and vandalism. The factors that cause bibliocrime actions are the collection of interest, lack of supervision, operating hours, laziness, forgetfulness, and lack of user awareness. The librarian's efforts in tackling bibliocrime actions are conducting socialization, implementing an electronic security system, applying and fines, placing officers at the entrance, conducting user education activities, providing photocopying facilities, and placing officers in the reading room.
