Abstract

Dengue fever is a disease that is still a global problem. Many factors can cause dengue in the community. This study aims to determine the relationship between environmental factors and behavior with the incidence of dengue hemorrhagic fever in the Tangkahan Martubung area. This study used a quantitative analytic approach with a cross-sectional study design. The research was conducted in the Tangkahan Martubung area, Medan Labuhan District in January-November 2022. The research population was 22,502 people. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, so the research sample was 138 people. The results showed that there was a relationship between lighting p-value = 0.029; OR= 3,789; 95% CI = 1.072-13.390), cleaning water reservoirs (TPA) (p-value=0.024; OR= 2.968; 95% CI = 1.122-7.848), using wire netting in house ventilation (P- value = 0.027; OR = 7.419; 95% CI = 0.957-57.496), the use of abate powder with the incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in the Tangkahan Martubung neighborhood (P-value = 0.030; OR = 2.857; 95% CI = 1.080-7.559) and hanging behavior clothing (P-value = 0.001; OR = 8.053; 95% CI = 2.304-28.140) with the incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in the Tangkahan Martubung area. The variable use of mosquito repellent found that there was no relationship between the use of mosquito repellent (P-value = 0.157 > 0.005) and the incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in the Tangkahan Martubung area. There are still many respondents who do not maintain the cleanliness of their home environment and have behaviors that can breed mosquitoes. Therefore, special attention is needed from both the District/City Health Office and the Puskesmas to continue to promote programs and policies in eradicating mosquito breeding grounds to prevent DHF.
