Abstract

Personal Hygiene and environmental cleanliness are part of everyday life. Therefore, as a human being should always pay attention to personal and environmental hygiene in order to avoid disease. The work of digging gutters / ditches from a job perspective has a high risk of getting skin health problems. Complaints on skin health experienced by trench digging workers can be caused by a lack of awareness of personal hygiene. This study aims to determine whether or not there is a relationship between personal hygiene and skin health complaints among officers who are digging trenches in Kecamatan Medan Timur. This type of research is a quantitative analytic study with a cross-sectional study design. The study population was all officers dig ditches of Kecamatan Medan Timur as many as 55 people with total sampling. The results showed that personal hygiene was not good at 54.5% and those who had skin health complaints were 65.5%. The results of statistical tests using the Chi-Square test showed that there was a relationship between Personal Hygiene and Skin Health Complaints in Trench Digging Workers in Kecamatan Medan Timur with p value = 0.001. Based on the results of the research, it is advisable for officers to dig trenches to always pay attention and maintain a clean and healthy lifestyle. For related agencies, it is necessary to promote and conduct counseling related to a clean and healthy lifestyle to increase knowledge and be able to apply it.
